Hawerchuk Wins At Wyndance

Eric Hawerchuk of Barrie took his first Professional win from Shawn LaFontaine of Cobourg in a shootout at Uxbridge’s Wyndance Golf Club.  The pair shot 70, 2 under on the windy day; both 1 shot ahead of 3rd place finish from Jon Rondeau of Maple, Ontario. Hawerchuk has been in six playoffs and he hasn’t lost one. “I just try to make pars and I’m aware that everyone is nervous in the setting.” His playoff strategy is sticking to routine and trusting his golf game under pressure.

Hawerchuk was back playing the Great Lakes Tour after playing in Western Canada on the PGA Tour Canada. His trip, among many others, was cut short when the city of Calgary flooded leaving it in a state of emergency.  He is back on the PGA Tour Canada in Winnipeg making everyone in Ontario proud.

Eric’s started playing golf seriously at the age of 12.  He practiced under Sam Young at Shelburne Golf Club – one of the best junior schools in Canada.  He was taught young what it means to practice seriously and how to play the game while keeping it fun.

Hawerchuk earned his PGA Tour Canada card last year at Q-School and his goal it to earn his Web.com tour card in the next couple years.  His long term goal it to be a top player in the world. The team at the Great Lakes Tour believe this can be a reality as Hawerchuk is a consistently good player with a great work ethic.  He is also a great team player, motivating Pros and Ams, old and new. Best of luck in your golf career Eric.

Andrew Jenson finished second at 3 under and Michael Gligic of Burlington, and Eric Hawerchuk of Barrie tied for third shooting 2 under.

It was the first event that the Great Lakes Tour held at this Vineland course and the pros had great things to say.  We will definitely be returning next year. For full event results, click here.

April 29th at the ‘The Bear”

The Great Lakes Tour managed to avoid the rain for the first time in the 2013 season! Event registration brought a strong field with Danny King, Zoltan Veress, Michael Gligic and Victor Ciesielski on the roster.  Ben Ferguson of Ancaster took the win shooting 67.  Michael Gligic, David Sheman and Ben Moser tie for second with scores of 69. Despite Ferguson’s win, we will call Moser player of the game as he drove back from Texas, arriving the morning of, to play the Great Lakes Tour event.

Turnberry’s Intended 36-Hole Day

Wednesday, April 24th was our scheduled 36-Hole Kick Off.  Brampton’s Turnberry Golf Course,  was well received among our Pro’s. Everyone coming off sharing their praise for the fun course – one player even went so far to call it “cute!”, but we won’t be naming names.  The morning started off great; cloudy with an acceptable temperature of 9 degrees.  Yes, rain was forecasted and we thought we were going to avoid it.  Nope.  Mother nature came in on a broomstick and shut us down. Luckily all players were able to get through the first round.  Eric Ross and Michael Gligic came out on top with scores of 56.  To view the leaderboard, click here.
